About your pet’s test results

About your pet’s test results

Test results are available within 5 business days and will be added to your pet’s record. They will be communicated to you by your email or automated phone call if anything was detected in your pet’s sample.

FOR HEARTWORM

Not Detected (Negative)

Your pet may begin (or continue taking) monthly heartworm prevention. We recommend testing annually and providing your pet with year-round prevention.

Detected (Positive)

Your pet needs to see a full-service veterinarian. Do not administer heartworm prevention product before consulting your veterinarian, as your pet may require treatment before use.

Inconclusive

Most cases this means there was not enough sample to run the test or the test failed to run accurately. VIP Petcare will provide you with a voucher to come back in to see us to redo this test at no additional cost to you.

FOR TICK BORNE DISEASES

Negative

Your pet is free from exposure

Positive

Your pet has been exposed to an infected tick at some point in their life. Due to the sensitivity of the test, a positive result can mean many different things. Referral to a full-service veterinarian is recommended for confirmation testing. VIP Petcare is not responsible for any veterinary fees that result from confirmation testing.

Inconclusive

Most cases this means there was not enough sample to run the test or the test failed to run accurately. VIP Petcare will provide you with a voucher to come back in to see us to redo this test at no additional cost to you.

FOR FIV/FeLV FOR CATS

Negative

Your pet is free from exposure. All kittens and unvaccinated adult cats should be vaccinated against FeLV, and adult cats exposed to outdoors cats should receive booster FeLV vaccinations.

Positive

If a kitten tests positive, they should be re-tested later as some kittens can convert to a negative test result on subsequent testing. Cats who test positive should be kept indoors to prevent the spread of infection to other cats and to reduce exposure to other infectious agents. A wellness visit should be scheduled with your full-service veterinarian. Pay close attention to the health and behavior of your infected cat and report any changes to your veterinarian.

Inconclusive

Most cases this means there was not enough sample to run the test or the test failed to run accurately. VIP Petcare will provide you with a voucher to come back in to see us to redo this test at no additional cost to you.
