Ticks! Fleas! Oh my! With pet ownership comes the presence of these little pests. They are a reality, but you can prevent them affecting your pet! Without appropriate prevention, tick (and fleas) can become a real nuisance and cause some real problems for your pet’s health.
Ticks pester your pet by ‘hitching a ride’ on them while outdoors. But they don’t just want to get from one place to another – they want to make a home out of your pet, and their dinner is your pet’s blood. Once a tick bites and attaches to your pet, the risk begins, and if that tick is carrying harmful bacteria then your pet can be in some real trouble. Tick preventative medications contain specific active ingredients and methods for preventing ticks. Ingredient examples include Afoxolaner (NexGard), Sarolaner (Simparica) and Fluralaner (Bravecto). They work to interfere with the nervous system of the flea or tick and kill it before harm can be done.
Here are some medications that can help keep your pet safe. (We recommend speaking with a Clinic or Wellness Center veterinarian to choose the best solution for your pet.)
